[cobirds] Blanca Wetlands and Alamosa: Snowy Plover, American Bittern, Greater Yellowlegs, WHITE IBIS

To celebrate Paul's 56th birthday we headed over to the San Luis Valley to do a little birding. First stop was Blanca Wetlands...it was a wonderfully cool and cloudy morning. During our morning there we saw:

Golden Eagle
Swainson's Hawk
Red-tailed Hawk
American Kestral
6 Snowy Plovers all in one scope view...fantastic!
Sage Thrashers were all over
American Avocets aplenty
1 lone Horned Lark
Song Sparrows
American Bittern
Black-crowned Night-Herons (around a dozen)
Spotted Sandpipers
Least Sandpipers
Wilson's Phalaropes
A family of Marsh Wrens
3 very cooperative Virginia Rails

Then it was on to Alamosa try to re-locate the WHITE IBIS first seen by Brian Harmon. After stumbling and bumbling around for the better part of an hour and with some help via the magic of the internet, we took Brandon Percival's advice and contacted Brian. Bingo...there was the WHITE IBIS in a flock of White-faced Ibis! Photos may be viewed at my Facebook page and Colorado Field Ornithologist Facebook page

Great birding day and Birthday for Paul!
