Todd Deininger and I toured the “greater” Longmont area today and found (or refound) a few nice birds. Basically, redheads cover most open water with other diving ducks also in strong numbers. At the Firestone Gravel Ponds NE of 119 and I-25 (Weld) we found the pair of Red-necked Grebes noted by Cathy Sheeter yesterday (and Nick Moore today). We also had a Greater Scaup at that location. In Boulder County, Prince Lake No. 2 had a single Greater White=fronted Goose, while Erie Reservoir has a FOS California Gull. We found one White-winged Dove at the corner of Spine and Wellington in Gunbarrel northwest of 63rd and Jay Rd. Lastly I checked on the Walden swans—9 there and still 3 at Valmont Res.
