[cobirds] Crane Festival Approaches

The Monte Vista Crane Festival is March 8-10 and the cranes have arrived for their special performance. I am still surveying the Refuge to see where the birds might be hanging out and their patterns. The turnouts along Hwy 15 are still good bets. The ice is off the auto tour loop ponds, which now have a nice assortment of ducks like Goldeneye, Bufflehead, Ring-nkd Ducks, and Canvasback.  About 3,000 Cackling Geese were along the tour route with one white goose.  Some of the crane resting areas are far from observable areas but watch for morning and evening feeding times and you should see many birds aloft.
Be safe out there and enjoy the Festival.  See some of you Friday for the birdwalk at Home Lake.
