[cobirds] Pectoral Sandpiper in Bent County

Birders,

I saw and head a Pectoral Sandpiper at the Santa Fe Slough, west of the John Martin State Park Visitor Center today. Best viewing is from the west, after winding through the construction zone in the State Park on the way to Overlook Point. Pectoral Sandpipers are rare spring migrants in Colorado, often as early as March. They are much more common in the fall.

I ran into Dave Leatherman at Hasty Campground. We saw and were intrigued by a dark, female-looking Wigeon that suggested a female Eurasian Wigeon.. Eventually, we saw a reduced whitish pate, which led me to the conclusion that it was a melanistic male American Wigeon, something different than anything I've ever seen before. Also here among many duck species was a male Blue-winged Teal.
