All,
It has been a very good last few weeks for rare birds in El Paso County. 9 of the last 10 submissions to the Colorado Rare Bird Committee have been from this county, although 5 of them were documenting the Common Gallinule, which is still being seen. Since then, there have been reports of White-tailed Kite by Mike Sullivan, Piping Plover at Big Johnson Res by Kara Laszczyk, and yesterday White Ibis at Fountain Creek by Melvin Goff and Aaron Driscoll. Thanks to everyone for submitting their reports.
White-tailed Kite has only been documented once in Colorado; In late May 2019 southeast of Lamar: https://cobrc.org/Reports/PrintDoc.aspx?DocID=11812
There are 11 previous records of White Ibis: https://cobrc.org/Reports/SpeciesDetail.aspx?id=85. Probably the bird most people saw was the adult which stayed at Lowell Ponds/Clear Creek Valley Park for a week in June 2017.
Cheers, Peter Gent.
Boulder, CO.
