[cobirds] Bird Conservancy of the Rockies - Chico Basin Ranch banding 5/12/22

I'm posting this summary on behalf of our Chico bander Julie, who has limited internet connectivity today. Julie and the team had quite a busy day today, in fact the busiest day in years! There were a number of highlights, but the biggest surprise of all was a station first Gray Vireo! As far as I know there is a single record on the ranch from 2003, but this is the first banded at the station (photos below). Other highlights were a Magnolia Warbler, Veery, and a whopping 45 MacGillivray's Warblers. Here are the totals, with 137 newly banded birds of 24 species.

'Audubon's' Yellow-rumped Warbler - 5

Dusky Flycatcher - 7

Western Kingbird - 2

Yellow-breasted Chat - 4

Swainson's Thrush - 1

Hermit Thrush - 25

Veery - 1

Spotted Towhee - 1

Lincoln's Sparrow - 5

Western Tanager - 5

Gray Catbird - 1

Lazuli Bunting - 1

Black-headed Grosbeak - 1

Bullock's Oriole - 1 newly banded, and 2 recaptures

The station is open 6 days a week through May 27th, closed on Monday May 16th and May 23rd. Stop by and visit!
