Slow all morning until the last run of the day, when we caught a mixed flock of mostly Yellow-rumped Warblers and Chipping Sparrows, but with a Downy Woodpecker and 2 recap Nuthatches thrown in for fun. Total of 29 new birds banded and 1 return from last year:
-- Downy Woodpecker 1
Black-capped Chickadee 1 return, banded last year
Ruby-crowned Kinglet 2
Hermit Thrush 1
Orange-crowned Warbler 3
Yellow-rumped Warbler, Myrtle 1
Yellow-rumped Warbler, Audubon 9
Unidentified Yellow-rumped Warbler 1
Chipping Sparrow 6
White-crowned Sparrow, Gambel's 4
Dark-eyed Junco, Pink-sided 1
I will be banding tomorrow (weather permitting......) then out of town on Fri and Sat. Nancy Gobris, BCR's banding coordinator, will be filling in for me.
Next week we will be closed Wed, Oct 12. Otherwise, we are open daily through Oct 16, weather permitting. We are opening nets at about 6:50 a.m. and most days we start closing between 11 a.m. and 12 noon. We will open later and/or close earlier if it is very hot, very cold,
wet, windy, etc. There are school groups most weekday mornings, usually arriving around 9:30. Best times to visit, if you like lots of birds and fewer humans, are early mornings during the week and Sundays.
