[cobirds] More Ovenbirds, JeffCo

Yesterday I checked along Pleasant Park Road above Deer Creek canyon and a series of over about 1.5 miles produced 5 singing Ovenbirds.

This morning I made a series of stops along High Grade Road, South Deer Creek Road, West Deer Creek Road and Maxwell Hill Road. 20 of the stops were in or near at least possible Ovenbird habitat and I heard 17 singing Ovenbirds at 13 of those 20 stops. All but two were in the Deer Creek watershed, with the others at the headwaters of a tributary that flows into the South Platte at Waterton Canyon (as noted from the top of Maxwell Hill road).

Song frequency is low this time of year, so you have to be ready. Individuals generally gave just 1-3 songs per five minute period at my stops.
