A Dickcissel continued at Chatfield SP today in the grasslands along the perimeter road about 0.3 miles south of the Fox Run parking lot. It did not sing while I was with it, but it sat obligingly the whole time upon a mostly dead shrub, joined at times by Lark Sparrows, a Blue Grosbeak, and a Bullock's Oriole. Another Dickcissel was at South Valley Park today (and another Blue Grosbeak), also not singing, but moving actively around the south end of the grassland area of the park, especially near the wetland area.
-- An Eastern Phoebe was at the Deer Creek inlet near the Chatfield Swim Beach this morning. A Red-eyed Vireo was singing at the Waterton Canyon parking lot, and perched nicely in plain view for a time in the dead branches of a tree at the north side. I walked a short way up the canyon, but it was breezy and the birds were quiet. I did find the male hybrid Lazuli x Indigo Bunting still near the Mule Deer rest shelter.
On July 16 I was surprised to have an adult Clay-colored Sparrow at Ken Caryl Valley in the Massey Draw watershed. eBird has only one other July occurrence for the greater Denver Metro Area.
The Wilson's Snipe residing near my home in Ken Caryl Valley was (so far) last noted on July 11. Not sure if he has departed or simply fallen silent and unresponsive to my imitation; the recent waxing moon waxed without Gallinago accompaniment. The wetland near the south end of South Valley Park had two snipes as recently as July 6, but they have also eluded me on subsequent visits.
