[cobirds] Logan County Birding .

CO Birders :

Lynne Miller and myself birded Logan County yesterday afternoon and this morning , the highlight being the previously reported male Eastern Wood-Pewee at Tamarack Ranch SWA seen both days . Note to clinch this bird you have to hear the distinctive plaintive long "pewee " call , as Western Wood-Pewees are present in the locality and plumage differences are very very subtle . See below my photo and tell me the differences between the two .. Baltimore Orioles , Bell's Vireo , Orchard Orioles , Dickcissels and Field Sparrows were also found .

Then to Logan CR 71 north of CO 138  where two visits gave us 2 Upland Sandpipers , multiple Burrowing Owls including 5 youngsters on one mound but more importantly we were reported to the local sheriff's department  as being suspicious characters with binoculars looking into a field so that after leaving the location on the second visit we were stopped 5 miles down the road and asked to show our credentials and explain what we doing looking into a field ( suspected cattle rustlers may be ) . After ten minutes we were politely told to be on our way . So if you are thinking of visiting this location and stay for more than 5 minutes expect to be reported and a visit from the sheriff to explain yourself .And a photo of the bird that caused all the trouble .
