Late yesterday morning (Dec. 2) Eileen Cunningham and I paid a visit to the Redlands Parkway Ponds. Highlights included 16 Canvasbacks, and relocating both the Say's Phoebe and Black Phoebe seen in the same location on Nov. 21.
-- The BLACK PHOEBE was perched on a branch just above the edge of the pond. It would fly down, land on the ice, pick up an insect???, then return to it's perch. Other times it would just hover above the ice, pick up something without landing, then return to it's perch on the bank.
Quite fascinating to watch it feed in the cold and using the ice.
