[cobirds] Swamp Sparrow, etc., Teller Farms, Boulder Co., 1/5

Hello, Birders.

I heard and saw a Swamp Sparrow at South Teller Farm, Boulder County, this frigid Sunday afternoon, January 5th. You can get to the bird from the parking area off Valmont Road; walk south, then east, then south, then pish in the shrubbery off to the east (to the left). The bird was cooperative, calling and showing well for quite some time.

Even more cooperative was a juvenile light-morph Rough-legged Hawk that hung out in a big tree in the parking lot the whole time I was there. I saw another Rough-legged Hawk, probably an adult female, a bit south of the parking lot. That's a lot of Rough-legs of late for Boulder County! Various Red-tails, including a beautiful Harlan's, in there, too.

Oh, also an adult Northern Shrike at the Swamp Sparrow place.

Gazillions of geese heading west toward Valmont Rez, but very gulls; we need sub-zero temps for a few nights. Either that or pave over Aurora and Pueblo reservoirs... ;-)
