The Kumlien's Iceland Gull from Monday was refound on Wednesday morning during the Loveland CBC first at Carter Lake (fee area) at dawn by Cole Wild et al. I found it at the Larimer County landfill (restricted access) at 9:15 am on Wednesday. A few photos are at http://www.pbase.com/quetzal/2014. It was at the Carter Lake nocturnal roost again on Tuesday evening (about 4:30 pm). Access to the gull flock at the landfill (on Taft Hill Rd., southwest of Fort Collins) is usually granted during business hours Mon - Sat at the landfill office. Drive around the scales and follow signs to the "Business Office".
The gull flock is 500-700 birds, about 90% Ring-billed, 10% Herring, and a few each of California, Thayer's and Lesser Black-backed. Cole also picked out an adult Mew Gull on Wednesday. During the day the gulls are divided into several groups which may also be at Lake Loveland (northwest corner). Horsetooth Reservoir's south end and Warren Lake would be other spots to look for resting gulls.
