Lots of visitors enjoyed the influx of Yellow Warblers with us on this Sunday before Memorial Day. They are still arriving, and they are starting to dash around – boys chasing other boys off their territories, boys chasing girls….Little balls of gold, flying through the air. And insects……presumably the birds are eating the insects and the insects are definitely snacking on the humans. Nature at its best! Here’s the breakdown of today’s 27 new birds:
House Wren 1
Gray Catbird 1
European Starling 1
Yellow Warbler 13 new, 1 return (banded 2010)
MacGillivray’s Warbler 1
Wilson’s Warbler 3
Spotted Towhee 1
White-crowned Sparrow, Mountain 1
Lazuli Bunting 1
Brown-headed Cowbird 1
Bullock’s Oriole 1
American Goldfinch 1
One week left! Open daily, weather permitting, through June 2. Come early, as the heat means an early closing and the birds really slow down as the day heats up.
