A lovely morning at the Chatfield Banding Station – 38 new birds and 1 return, total of 15 species. Started the day with FOS Cedar Waxwings and a Marsh Wren. Here’s the breakdown for the day:
Western Wood-pewee 1
Least Flycatcher 2
Dusky Flycatcher 3
House Wren 3
Marsh Wren 1
Swainson’s Thrush 1
Gray Catbird 1
Cedar Waxwing 2
Yellow Warbler 6 new, 1 return (Banded 2012)
MacGillivray’s Warbler 4
Common Yellowthroat 6
Wilson’s Warbler 1
Yellow-breasted Chat 3
Lincoln’s Sparrow 3
Dark-eyed Junco, Slate-colored 1 (Yes, we caught a Junco on 5/23. It had some kind of strange, hard “growth” on its upper mandible. Although it otherwise appeared active and okay, there is a real question about its health.)
Hope this activity, which looks more like migration than any time in the last 3 weeks, continues for a few days!
Open daily, weather permitting, through June 2.
