I popped over to Red Rocks this afternoon around 2:00 to try my luck with the various birds being seen there. I struck out on both falcons, but admittedly didn't put too much effort into it. I had seen the peregrines and a prairie on Monday, so my motivation level was somewhat lacking.....had better luck at the feeders, where I went three-for-three on the sparrows. The fox sparrow was unexpectedly cooperative, and put in an appearance after only a couple of minutes. As usual, when one of the scrub-jays flew in and disrupted the gathering, the FS disappeared into the tangle, never to be seen again. The chipper was hanging around with the juncos (all races except white-winged as noted by Mike). The golden-crowned was somewhat problematic until I was about to give up and move along. Apparently informed that it was going to miss its opportunity to be admired, it finally showed up after a fifteen-minute wait. Also, present were the usual array of house finches, black-capped chickadees (why do the mountains seem to shun this locality, when they appear at many locations nearby?), scrub-jays, a couple of spotted towhees and a song sparrow.
Good birding to all,
