It is not easy to get out to that area. The shore is lined with reeds, and the muck will easily suck your shoes off. I almost lost a Neos Explorer overshoe. There may be a drier route out there from the other side of Cottonwood Creek. Anyway, I wore camo and had my camera wrapped in camp, crept up slow, and creeped up prone once I got past the mud and muck...the shorebirds did not seem to mind a bit, and were entirely fearless. The Willets and Avocets came within a couple feet of my lens as long as I laid down (which I warn anyone who wishes to get out there...is a wet, muddy experience, but worth it for the photos you can get!).
