BACA COUNTY:
--At Two Buttes on March 30, Dunning reported GOLDEN-CROWNED SPARROW and
Yellow-bellied Sapsucker.
BOULDER COUNTY:
--2 Dunlin were found by Cropper at McIntosh Lake in Longmont in the SE
corner on March 30. Nunes reported that the Dunlin had moved to a pond NE
from McIntosh on Harvard St on the afternoon of March 30. On April 2,
Boswell reported that the 2 Dunlin continued at the pond on Harvard.
--At Bohn Park in Lyons, Nunes reported an ad M Yellow-bellied Sapsucker on
March 30.
--Nunes reported that the GOLDEN-CROWNED SPARROW continues at Teller Farm
on March 30.
--On April 3, DeFonso reported that the Northern Cardinal in west Boulder
was in the neighborhood of 4th and Juniper.
--Nunes reported that the Eastern Phoebe has returned to the Canon Ditch headgate on South Boulder Creek on April 4. Boswell refound the Eastern Phoebe near the headgate on April 7.
--An Eastern Phoebe was found by the First Sunday Birders by the bridge on 75th St over Boulder Creek on April 7.
CROWLEY COUNTY:
--An ad LITTLE GULL (full black head and dark underwings) was reported by the VENT Tour led by Michael O'Brien and Brian Gibbons at Lake Meredith on April 7. The LITTLE GULL was seen by several birders later on April 7.
DELTA COUNTY:
--A Long-tailed Duck was reported by Tischbein at Hart's Basin by the
spillway on March 30.
--A COMMON BLACK-HAWK was reported by Beason soaring over Hotchkiss for 15 minutes on April 5.
EAGLE COUNTY:
--40+ Barrow's Goldeneyes were reported by Filby at Spring Park Reservoir
on April 1.
EL PASO COUNTY:
--A male Barrow's Goldeneye was reported by Barnes at the Double Tree Pond at Circle Drive and I-25 in Colorado Springs on April 5. Driscoll refound the Goldeneye on April 6.
JACKSON COUNTY:
--At a feeder in Walden, Kibbe reported 20+ Common Redpolls on March 30.
--At a private feeder just W of the Moose Visitor Center, Kibbe reported
all 3 species of Rosy-Finches on March 30.
JEFFERSON COUNTY:
--The GOLDEN-CROWNED SPARROW at the Red Rocks Trading Post, first reported
by Henwood on October 26, was seen again on April 3 by Henwood.
LARIMER COUNTY:
A Varied Thrush has been visiting the back yard feeders of Ken Allen in
Fort Collins since Jan 15. His address is 1719 Ticonderoga Dr. Please
call first home: 970-225-0988 or cell: 970-443-8093. On March 17,
Komar reported that the Varied Thrush was seen. Allen reported on April 2
that the Varied Thrush continues to regularly visit his yard around 9-10 in
the morning and late afternoon. Birders are welcome to come by if they
call him first.
--150 Bohemian Waxwings were reported by Kogler at Simpson Ponds SWA in
Loveland on CR 9E on March 16. On March 22, Kogler reported 400 Bohemian
Waxwings at Simpson Ponds SWA. They split into smaller flocks and were
seen on the N and E sides of the north pond. On March 29, Goff reported
Bohemian Waxwings on the N border of the SWA. On March 31, Kogler reported
that the numbers of Bohemian Waxwings is greatly reduced at Simpson Ponds
SWA. Maybe 80 -100. Please park in the SWA parking lot. DO NOT park
along the road or on private property.
--At Horseshoe Lake, Komar reported 3 ad Lesser Black-backed Gulls on March
30.
--An Eastern Phoebe was reported by Biggerstaff at the Cobb Lake Unit of
Wellington SWA on April 2. The unit is between E CR 56 and 58 and W of N
CR 3.
--100 Bohemian Waxwings were reported by Keirn at a strip mall S & W of
the intersection of Drake and Shields in Fort Collins on April 3.
PROWERS COUNTY:
--At Lamar Community College Woods on March 30, Dunning reported a pair of
Northern Cardinals and a Harris's Sparrow at the south end and a
Red-bellied Woodpecker was heard.
WELD COUNTY:
--2 Red-necked Grebes were reported by Sheeter at Firestone Gravel pits on
the pond closest to Hwy 119 on March 1. Sheeter refound the 2 Red-necked
Grebes at Firestone Gravel pits on April 4 and says that they are turning into breeding plumage.
--2 Dunlin were reported by Mlodinow in the NW corner of Union Reservoir on
March 31.
--A F Barrow's Goldeneye was reported by Sheeter on a pond off of CR 26 just west of CR 17 on April 4.
--A F Long-tailed Duck transitioning into breeding plumage was reported by Sheeter at Frederick Rec Area on April 5.
The DFO field trip for Sunday, April 14 will be to Cherry Creek Wetlands led by Karen von Saltza (303-941-4881). Meet the leader at 0800 at the Prairie Loop lot in Cherry Creek SP. From either park entrance, follow Lake View Rd to the Prairie Loop which is located at the south rim of the reservoir. State Parks Pass or day pass required. This half-day walk passes through most of the important habitats found in the park over a distance of about 3 miles. Trails could be slippery or muddy, so dress accordingly in layers and boots. Bring water and snacks, but lunch is optional. Beginning birders are welcome. No registration required. Co-sponsored by Denver Audubon.
The DFO field trip for Saturday, April 20 will be to Denver City Park led by Chuck Hundertmark (303-604-0531). Meet the leader at 0700 at the parking strip SE of 22nd Ave just north of Ferril Lake. From Colorado Blvd, turn west onto 22nd Ave, and go past the Museum of Nature and Science. Turn left just before the Zoo at the sign to the Pavilion Bandstand. Park on the left at the end of the parking area closest to Ferril Lake. Will Photograph and observe early nesting behavior of Double-crested Cormorants, Black-crowned Night Herons, and Snowy Egrets on Ferril and Duck Lakes. For SLR's a 300 mm lens or better is recommended. Will walk the park for migrant and early nesters, Bring water, snacks, binocs, camera, optional tripod and scopes. Half day trip.
