There were more gold panners than birds along Clear Creek today out west of I-70 in Wheat Ridge. Did find this white-breasted mallard drake. Seemed to have a mate, but the other drakes were picking on him. A few other green winged teal and gadwalls in the creek. A few golden-eye, buffle-heads and hooded mergansers in the adjacent gravel pit lakes. Another birder said he'd seen a golden eagle fly over, but I missed it. The resident kingfisher was rattling around. You can see the white-breasted mallard at http://birdsbybill.blogspot.--com/
