Birders,
We got the feeders out this morning and immediately had the usual goldfinches, chickadees, house finches and juncos and then, poof; no one.
I looked around and a Red-breasted Nuthatch was frozen on our big feeder not moving. Knew there had to be a accipiter somewhere nearby. Just then and adult Sharpie made a pass at the nuthatch who ducked into the junipers and the hawk almost ran into our windows about 5' from me and then went into the oak, then the neighbors pine and then our hackberry. It then flew at a butterfly bush flushing some poor lbj onto the snow. The Sharpie then grabbed its breakfast and headed out.
Merry Christmas
