This morning along with Norm Evans and his friend Ted threw out some
seed (about 7:30 a.m.) at the feeders behind the Red Rocks Trading
Post. The Golden-crowned Sparrow soon appeared and we had three Gray-
crowned Rosy-Finches on the wall. Two were "interior" and one was a
"Hepburn's". Did not see the large flock of Rosy-Finches. Also had
a White-breasted Nuthatch at the lower apple tree. All the varieties
of Dark-eyed Juncos were present among the large number of juncos
including White-winged and Cassiar. The past couple of evenings I
have been watching the feeders from 4:30 - 5:00 p.m. after the House
Finches and W. Scrub-Jays have left and have been able to count the
Spotted Towhees and Song Sparrows as the individual birds remain at
the feeders. The Song Sparrows are always the last to leave. When you
see both species side-by-side, it is possible to pick out and identify
the different individuals. Anyway, according to my observations,
there are 5 different Song Sparrows and 4 different Spotted Towhees.
Checked the Boat Launch area at Bear Creek Lake Park (BCLP) - good
numbers of American Tree Sparrows and Song Sparrows, but nothing
unusual.
The dark morph Harlan's Hawk was perched high on one of the light
poles along C470 between W. Quincy and W. Bellview.
