I refound the 1st winter Black Phoebe I found on the Canon City Riverwalk this week. And I also refound the 2 White-throated Sparrows I found there last week--and they are still sticking close together.
I have been catching quick views of one or more Harlan's Red-tailed Hawks in Canon City for about a week but it/they are very shy. Today I confirmed are two different Harlan's-one with a white breast that is sparsely streaked and the other with a heavily streaked chest. I finally got a reasonably good, tho distant (flushes when I am less than 400 feet and I stay in my car and try to hide car behind trees/shrubs) that I have now uploaded to my Birds and Nature blog. Though this Harlan's is similar to one I photographed in Canon City in October, it may be a different hawk.
A nice dark rufous Red-tailed Hawk has been around the Canon City Riverwalk for about week. And just a lot of Red-tailed Hawks around Canon City, close to river and closer to people than usual--suspect this is related to our terrible drought>lack of vegetation>lack of small mammals and snakes and such for them to eat so hunting where more food possible.
