Megan and others,

My Painted Redstart:

1. My redstart  is RED on its upper breast  not orange as on the Am.Redstart

2.  My redstart has a white wing patch vs. none on the Am.Redstart

I could go on, but it would be easier if birders would look at their bird books, for instance:

See page 382 in "The Warbler Guide"  by Tom Stephenson and Scott White for a comparison of these two redstart species.

Please, when questioning an identification please do not be rude or snarky as some people have been!

I don't recall the year, but this one is my favorite (see attached px). I was so excited I could hardly hold the camera. I can't find my total list for my property in Louisville, but as I recall it's only about 140 species.
