DFO's Hawk Watch Education Program begins October 9. Sign up now for a trio of special programs in October to improve your raptor ID skills.

SUNDAY, OCTOBER 9, 1-3 PM: RAPTOR IDENTIFICATION WITH NATURE'S EDUCATORS

This in-person event features live falcons, hawks, and eagles from Nature's Educators, an acclaimed Colorado wildlife outreach organization. The event will take place in the Lois Webster Amphitheater at Denver Audubon's Kingery Nature Center, 11280 Waterton Road, Littleton. Participants will learn how to identify eight raptor species found along Colorado's Front Range. The program will also cover habitat and conservation measures. Bring your cameras and questions for an encounter that will provide a truer perspective on the size of these birds of prey. The event will take place rain or shine.

Cost is $10 for DFO members, $12 for nonmembers. This program is for adults only (age 18 and up). You must register in advance. No refunds. All proceeds benefit the Denver Field Ornithologists Hawk Watch program at Dinosaur Ridge.

How to register. DFO members should register through DFO/BBS Workshops. Nonmembers should register through EventBright.

WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 12, 7 PM VIA ZOON — HAWKS IN FLIGHT ID SKILLS 

Dave Hill, chair of DFO's Hawk Watch Committee, will present on field marks to look for when observing raptors in migration. This free session is for birders of all ages. Participants will learn to identify locally seen hawk species in flight using shape, plumage, and flight styles that distinguish each from the others. You must register in advance. A link to the Zoom webinar will be sent to you. 

How to register. Members and nonmembers alike can register through DFO/Zoom.

SATURDAY, OCTOBER 15, 9 AM - NOON — DFO FIELD TRIP TO DINOSAUR RIDGE

Those who attend one or both of the above events will receive an email invitation with details for joining this field trip where you can practice your skills. Join DFO seasoned hawk watchers at the site where DFO conducts its spring migration birds-of-prey count with the support of partners Denver Audubon, Colorado Field Ornithologists, Jefferson County Open Space and Hawk Watch Migration Association of North America.
