Today’s forecast at earth.nullschool.net was similar to that of the last few days where there was a band of strong NW winds especially north of Denver and less so at the watch. I felt that this would prevent any migrant hawks flying southward East of the Front Range to the watch, and instead push them to the east of Denver and away from the hawk watch. This is what happened 2 days ago as well as today. In the last hour today there was excellent cloud cover both overhead and immediately to the north and west of the watch, in spite of which I could find no migrating hawks. Level 3 winds with gusts to Level 5 ("branches of moderate size move, small trees with leaves begin to sway") from the W>NW, temperature 13-16°C, humidity 24â€"19%, steady barometer, increasing cloud cover 15-50%, clear visibility to 25 km.
Raptor Observations:
Non-migrant raptors: RT 3, AK in binoculars to the NW which flew to the North and dropped.
Non-raptor Observations:
Townsend’s Solitaire 4, Woodhouse’s Scrub-Jay 1, Black-capped Chickadee 1, Common Raven 5, House Finch 1.
Predictions:
Tomorrow according to earth.nullschool.net the winds are predicted visually to come streaming down from Canada in an NNW direction eventually turning towards the hawk watch location from the NE, so perhaps there may be some migration visible at the watch, perhaps later in the day.

Site Description
Dinosaur Ridge is the only regularly staffed hawk watch in Colorado and is the
best place in the world to see migrating Ferruginous Hawks. Hawk watchers may
see 17 species of migrating raptors; and it is an excellent site to see rare
dark morph buteos including Broad-winged hawk, Swainson’s hawk, Ferruginous
hawk, Rough-legged hawk and Red-tailed Hawk. Other raptors we see include Golden
and Bald Eagles, Northern harrier, Osprey, Peregrine Falcons, Prairie Falcons,
Cooper's and Sharp-shinned Hawks, American Kestrels, Merlin, and Turkey
Vultures. Northern Goshawk is uncommon but also counted each season. Non-raptor
species include Rock Wren, Bushtit, Western Bluebird, Sandhill Crane,
White-throated Swift, American White Pelican, and Dusky Grouse. Birders of any
skill level are always welcome. The hawk watch at Dinosaur Ridge is staffed by a
Hawk Counter and volunteers from 9:30 AM to 5:30 PM from March 1st to May 14th,
weather permitting.
Directions to site:
From exit 259 on I-70 towards Morrison, drive south under freeway and take left
into first parking lot, the Stegosaurus lot. Follow small signs from the
southwest end of lot to the hawkwatch site. The hike starts heading east on an
old two-track and quickly turns south onto a trail on the west side of the
ridge. When the trail nears the top of the ridge, turn left, head through the
gate, and walk to the clearly-visible, flat area at the crest of the ridge.
