[cobirds] Bird Conservancy of the Rockies - Barr Banding Report, 8/28/21

I mentioned the influx of Chipping Sparrows yesterday when we caught 11, which is a lot for this early in the season.  Today, we banded 30.  All but three were hatch year birds, still in juvenile plumage.  The other three were females, still showing brood patches.  Most were caught together in a couple of nets out by the lake on our 8:40 run.  A big breeding season for Chippers?

We also caught 35 other birds, pretty typical for the season, for a total of 65:

Western Wood-Pewee 8
Willow Flycatcher 1
Dusky Flycatcher 1
Black-capped Chickadee 1
House Wren 8
Yellow Warbler 6
MacGillivray's Warbler 1
Common Yellowthroat 1
Wilson's Warbler 8
Chipping Sparrow 30

We will be open 6 days a week, weather permitting through October 23.  Closed Mondays.  Click here to register to visit - we are offering one-hour slots (up to 12 visitors at a time); 7:30-8:30 most weekdays, and 8-9, 9-10, and 10-11 on weekends.  We look forward to seeing many of you during the season!
