Re: [cobirds] Yellow Grosbeak NOT seen today June 2nd

A big "thank you" to the gracious hosts of the Yellow Grosbeak in Huerfano County.  Your yard is wonderful and your willingness to share this great sighting is deeply appreciated.  Thanks also to Brandon for keeping us well-informed about the bird.

The last sighting of the Yellow Grosbeak in Huerfano County was around 6pm on Tuesday June 1st.  No sightings at all today, Wednesday June 2nd.  Unless it shows up again, the dates of May 28th to June 1st, 2021 will be the dates the Yellow Grosbeak was documented in Huerfano County, Colorado.

Thanks to the gracious landowners, for hosting us birders for 5 days!  Happy to hear a few hundred people were able to see it.  This was certainly one of the most unexpected birds to show up in Colorado!  It was great that the bird decided to show up at Gib's amazing yard!  It was so very kind of them to let the birders come and see this major United States rarity and an unexpected first for Colorado.

On Friday afternoon, when I saw Gib's photos, I was amazed to see that a Yellow Grosbeak was in Huerfano County, which isn't far away from here.  I asked Gib If I could come down and look for it, luckily I had a chance to meet and bird with him in the past a few times, so he knew me.  My uncle Van Truan and I arrived at 2:30pm and we saw it by 2:40pm and took more photos and paid attention to feather wear, making sure there was no sign of a possible caged bird, that got loose somehow.  I let him know, this would be a bird that many people would want to see, and they said that would be fine (birders were calling me while I was there, trying to find if people come see the bird, and my phone had pretty bad reception).  Happy this all went well, as the crowds started to come later Friday afternoon through the evening.  Luckily, the bird stayed for four more days and lots of people were able to see it.  Some people got on airplanes and rented cars, or drove lots of miles through a few states to get a look at this bird.  Thanks to the Colorado Birding Community for being well behaved during this five day visit of the Yellow Grosbeak!

Thanks again,
