[cobirds] Update - Proposed Development along Ralston Creek in Arvada

I wanted to follow up on the March posting with some good news. Thanks to the efforts of the community, the Amazon warehouse will not be built along the Ralston Creek Trail east of Indiana in Arvada. Thank you to everyone who completed the survey and/or signed petitions.

I wanted to let birders know that they have an opportunity to weigh in on a proposed  large distribution center along the Ralston Creek Trail just east of Indiana in Jefferson County.

The proposed project will include a distribution facility (presumably Amazon) consisting of a commercial warehouse totaling approximately 112,000-117,000 square feet with 21 truck docks and operate 24/7 with lights and noise. Additional information on the project is located here

Great Horned Owls and Eastern Screech Owls have made this 1/2 mile stretch their home, as well as nearly 100 other species (hotspot: Ralston Creek--Maple Valley Park). The Arvada City Council is scheduled to vote in May 2021 on the proposal.

Please consider completing a survey the neighborhood has put together to have the facility built elsewhere, away from this open space. This type of effort can and has been successful in moving site locations in the past.
