[cobirds] RMNP Entrance Question

Hello all,

I was hoping to attempt to see the Ptarmigan that have been reported the last few weeks at RMNP. That said, we will be entering the park early to get there in time. I know there are new restrictions on timed entry. It looks like 9am is the earliest general park time, but 5am is the earliest for Bear Lake. If I purchase a day pass, can I still enter the park at 5am without a timed entry reservation? Has anyone had experience with this? Appreciate any insight.

  1. The Park is open 24 hours a day. The timed entry system for permits is as you describe. If you enter the Bear Lake Road portion of the Park during the timed entry period 5 am to 6 pm you need the permit. Otherwise you do not need it only the general admission pass. For the rest of the Park, the timed entry permit is needed from 9 am to 6 pm. If you enter Bear Lake Rd or the rest of the Park outside those hours the timed entry permit is not needed. However, one still needs to have the general admission pass. If you enter the Park outside the timed entry periods and leave the Park say for lunch in Estes, you will need a timed entry permit to renter during the permit hours. Hope this helps. The information is on the RMNP website.
