Thanks, Thomas, for the heads-up on propitious conditions at Boulder Rez. I'll add that, as of right now, Little Gaynor Lake, off U. S. 287 near Longmont, Boulder County, is ringed with hot-and-juicy--actually, hot-and-crusty--exposed shoreline. Andrew Floyd and I stopped in there a few days ago, sans scope, and nevertheless managed to find 6 Baird sandpipers, a least sandpiper, 20+ killdeers, a Wilson phalarope, a spotted sandpiper, 8 American avocets, and some distant spuhs sparkling on the white-hot, alkaline-caked, sun-baked distant shoreline.
Waneka Lake, also off U. S. 287 in Boulder County, actually has decent shoreline now, but alls Hannah Floyd and I could find there this Sat. afternoon were 3 spotted sandpipers and a forlorn killdeer.

Speaking of Waneka Lake, be there or be square, tomorrow afternoon, Sunday, Aug. 2, at 1pm, for the monthly "Lafayette Birds!" outing. All are welcome, no RSVP req'd, no experience necessary. Just show up. Hannah and I went scouting this afternoon, and found lots of hummingbirds, 6 snowy egrets, a black-crowned night-herons, chatterbox Bullock orioles, a gray catbird, an early red-breasted nuthatch, and lots of cool insects. See you tomorrow!

Just saw this article in the Boulder Daily Camera regarding the plans to drain Boulder Reservoir beginning September 1. Perhaps it's a bit late for the shorebird fall migration, but the mudflats should be quite extensive, and with no boat traffic should be quite peaceful. Maybe good news for jaeger sightings, too?Good birding,Thomas HeinrichBoulder, CO--
