Rare, out-of-place and out-of-season species include:

 

COMMON GALLINULE (Larimer)

YELLOW-CROWNED NIGHT-HERON (Alamosa)

Ash-throated Flycatcher (Adams)

Yellow-breasted Chat (*Gilpin)

LUCY'S WARBLER (Mesa)

Northern Parula (El Paso)

Dickcissel (*Montrose)

 

ADAMS COUNTY:

—-On July 11 an Ash-throated Flycatcher was reported at Rocky Mountain Arsenal in a locust tree by the south Ladora parking area.  This is a continuing first summer eBird record at the Arsenal and only the third record overall (year-round, all years) there. First reported by Orien Richmond July 10.

 

ALAMOSA COUNTY:

—-On July 10 a first-year YELLOW-CROWNED NIGHT-HERON was reported at Blanca Wetlands by Lisa Rawinski. Currently, the wetlands are closed but will be open to birders on July 16th. The bird was seen in the wetlands just to the NW of the parking lot at North Mallard. This appears to be a first San Luis Valley record.

  

 EL PASO:

—-On July 11 a singing Northern Parula was reported at Fountain Creek—S Circle Dr to S Academy Blvd by Tanja Britton. First reported on June 26 by Richard Bunn.


GILPIN COUNTY:

—-On July 18 a Yellow-breasted Chat was reported at Golden Gate Canyon SP, down the road from the visitor center, by Art Reisman.   This is a first eBird county report.

 

LARIMER COUNTY:

—-On July 10 a COMMON GALLINULE was reported at Wellington SWA -Schware Unit.  This  has been its haunt since first reported on April 29 by Josh Bruening.


MESA COUNTY:

—On July 17 a LUCY'S WARBLER was reported at Gateway Cottonwoods.  (2) birds have been seen several times at this location, although there is no confirmed breeding.  First reported by Nic Norte with credit to Mark and Denise Vollmar and Eileen Cunningham who discovered them during their Bluebird Box Survey.   


MONTROSE COUNTY:

—-On July 18 a Dickcissel was reported at 27 Rd/Nucla -WTO.  First reported on July 1 by Brenda Wright and Coen Dexter.  This is the first eBird county record.
