[cobirds] Tamarack Ranch

Hi all, 

Today we ventured up from Louisville to check Tamarack Ranch State Wildlife Area, arriving in the late morning. We birded the area for some four hours, finding most of the regular species, including Indigo Bunting, Yelllow-billed Cuckoo, Northern Cardinal, Dickcissel, and Field Sparrow. Along the Platte River was a Greater Yellowlegs, three Baird's Sandpiper, two Solitary Sandpipers, and a handful of Killdeer. Then, as we were walking along the trail, we flushed what we felt was certain to be a Red-shouldered Hawk. After strenuous searching, which including crossing the ditch and hiking through thick vegetation (some of which included Poison Ivy), we were not able to relocate the bird. Further along was a Red-eyed Vireo, the only bird flagged from the day. Wild Turkeys and Northern Bobwhites were detected at various locations. We then made a quick jaunt to Prewitt Reservoir, where there was a Semipalmated Sandpiper amongst the many Baird's and Killdeer.
