---On July 10, David Wade and Nick Komar reported Field Sparrow at Devil's Backbone. It is a 45 minute hike from Devil's Backbone Parking Area. Take Wil Loop Trail to Hunter Loop Trail to highest point. Listen for song from grassy swale on south side of trail.

Denver Field Ornithologists Field Trips
The DFO Field Trip for Friday, July 14 will be to Park County Reservoirs led by Mary Geder and Chris Blakeslee (mfg5000 AT live.com; 303-980-6127) This trip is full.
The DFO Field Trip for Friday, July 14 will be to Staunton State Park led by Chris Gilbert & Rebecca Laroche (chrisgee9 AT gmail.com; 804-214-1508). Trail Difficulty: Strenuous.
Directions: Take US Hwy 2852 south to Shaffers Crossing, about 5 miles west of Conifer. Turn north on Elk Creek Road and follow the signs 1.5 miles to park entrance. State Parks pass or day pass required.
Meet on road just outside the gate about 0645, gate opens a 0700. Will go immediately to the Group Picnic area, just past the entrance station. Hike 5 – 7 miles, part of which will require some steep uphills. Bring raincoat, water, snacks, lunch, hat, sunscreen and bug spray. Register online or contact leader.
The DFO Field Trip for Saturday, July 15 will be Beaver Brook Trail led by Paul Slingsby (paslingsby AT comcastn.net; 303-442-3728) Meet at 0600 at lower end of the stegosaurus Park-n-Ride. Will carpool from there. From I-70, exit 259, turn left onto Co 26; dirver under I-70 bridge and look for the Park-n-Ride on your left. Will carpool 6 miles to trailhead. Bring a sack lunch and water. Register online or contact leader.
The DFO Field Trip for Sunday, July 16 will be to Riverside Cemetery/Platte River led by Kevin Corwin (kevygudguy AT aol.com; 720-482-8454). Entrance is at 5201 Brighton Blvd in Denver. Gates open at 0800. Will park on west side of the office building. Will wander the paths of the cemetery and check its wetlands and woodlands, then exit back gate to river. Will walk along riverside path to Northside Park and Heron Pond Wildlife Refuge, then retrace step back to cemetery. Basic restroom facilities are available in a shed on the east side of the office building. Bring water, snacks, and footwear for dirt or mud paths. Scopes optional. Register online or contact leader.
