[cobirds] Bird Conservancy Banding Report - Barr Lake Station, 10/2/16

Our 'just another quiet fall morning at Barr" was interrupted at about 8:40 when a mixed flock of Flickers and Starlings came through.  Both species have been around for weeks, and we've caught a few Flickers, but this morning we got 3 of each on the same net run.  A somewhat raucous few minutes as we extricated these birds with out-sized personalities from 2 adjacent nets.  Ended the day with 4 Flickers, one of which was a gorgeous Intergrade - a red-shafted head pattern with beautiful yellow on the wings and tail, and one of which was banded on September 30 last year, the day we caught 5 in the same net run.  A nice morning, with 18 new, 1 return and a good mix of species:

We are open 6 days each week, weather permitting, through October 16. This week we are CLOSED TUES, OCT 4; next week, Wed, Oct 12. We are opening nets at about 6:50 a.m. and most days we start closing between 11 a.m. and 12 noon. We will open later and/or close earlier if it is very hot, very cold, wet, windy, etc. There are school groups most weekday mornings, usually arriving around 9:30. Best times to visit, if you like lots of birds and fewer humans, are early mornings during the week and Sundays.
