[cobirds] Loveland CBC highlights

The Loveland CBC was held Thursday Jan 1 in cold but otherwise pleasant weather. A record 71 observers participated, identifying 26,072 birds of 94 species plus 2 additional species (American Three-toed Woodpecker and Varied Thrush) during count week. Highlights on count day included:
Greater Scaup-1
White-winged Scoter-1 (no longer present on Jan 2)
Eared Grebe - 15
Northern Goshawk-2
California Gull - 1
Lesser Black-backed Gull - 1
Long-eared Owl - 1
Northern Saw-whet Owl - 1
Northern Pygmy-Owl - 1
Pinyon Jay - 60
Mountain Bluebird- 1
Golden-crowned Kinglet - 3
Harris's Sparrow- 1
Common Grackle - 25
Great-tailed Grackle - 46
Lesser Goldfinch - 4
Pine Grosbeak - 15 (new species)
 
The Loveland CBC continues to be supported by the Fort Collins Audubon Society, City of Loveland, Larimer County Department of Natural Resources, Larimer County Landfill, Quetzal Tours, and the Sylvan Dale Guest Ranch/Heart-J Center for Experiential Learning.
