[cobirds] American Woodcock, Larimer Co.

Hi Cobirders,

I arrived at Bobcat Ridge NA a little before 2pm. Parking was available
at that moment, but the NA was clearly busy, not surprising considering
the beautiful sunny windless 60 degree Sunday.

Four or five birders were on the woodcock and kindly pointed it out to
me. It was working east on the north side of the stream, feeding
intensely. Its feeding behavior was fascinating, somewhat
dowitcher-like, but more of a precise, slow bobbing up and down, a bit
like a spotted sandpiper does. I was rewarded with a few decent photos.
Once fed, it settled down into the leaf litter and became virtually
invisible. I watched for its reappearance a full 30 minutes, but it had
either escaped or settled in for a long winter's nap.
