[cobirds] Elbert County birding Jan 20

Yesterday (Jan 20) I visited some areas in Elbert County along Highway 86 from the vicinity of Elizabeth to a short way east of the town of Kiowa. Type 2 Red Crossbills and Red-breasted Nuthatches were frequent in Ponderosa forest around Elizabeth. Two highlights in the forest along Park Lane on the eastern side of town were 2 Evening Grosbeaks and 2 Cassin's Finches. A small flock of Bushtits was at the cemetery. Outside of town I saw a Merlin, and a White-winged Junco. A Ruby-crowned Kinglet was at Kiowa. A pair of Common Ravens was east of Kiowa along Wedermeyer Road. And more Red Crossbills were in pines in that area, but fewer than at Elizabeth as few trees had cones.
