We saw a large mixed flock of rosy finches at Mueller State Park (fee area) when cross country skiing this afternoon.
There were at least 70 birds, mostly grey capped with some brown capped and one or two black and Hepburn's.
They were feeding on the ground along the entrance road on a south-facing slope with little snow, just east of the "Dragonfly" parking lot. They were feeding on seeds of a dark forb (probably Senecio vulgaris or similar)
We saw them on the way in around noon And again in the same area around 3p.
They flushed easily and were quite skittish but always returned do the same area, affording us great looks from the car.
