I got a little behind on my data entry. Now that I'm caught up, here is my report on the rest of last week's banding.
-- We did not band on Wednesday, 10/1 due to rain. Overall, the warbler numbers have dropped while the number of White-crowned Sparrows are still increasing. Diversity is still decent, although on our slowest day we banded only White-crowned Sparrows and a Mountain Chickadee.
Our Public Day (10/4) went well - we had a lot of birds and good diversity, with one first of season (Common Yellowthroat). Most of the birds were in the early morning, so the early arrivals got to see the best banding. I hope everyone who made it had a wonderful experience - thank you so much for coming out. Of course, everyone is still invited to come by if they would like any weekday from tomorrow through 10/17, but know that most days we will have school groups from about 9:00-11:30.
On 10/2, we banded 14 birds with 2 repeats; on 10/3 we banded 7 birds and 1 repeat; and on 10/4 we banded 15 birds with one repeat.
Breakdown of new captures, 10/2:
Northern Flicker Intergrade - 1
Mountain Chickadee - 1
Blue-gray Gnatcatcher - 1
Gambel's White-crowned Sparrow - 11
One of the repeats was the Ovenbird! The bird had put on a decent amount of fat.
Breakdown of new captures, 10/3:
Mountain Chickadee - 1
Gambel's White-crowned Sparrow - 6
Breakdown of new captures, 10/4, Public Day:
Ruby-crowned Kinglet - 2
Orange-crowned Warbler - 2
Yellow-rumped (Audubon's) Warbler - 1
Common Yellowthroat - 1
Spotted Towhee - 1
Gambel's White-crowned Sparrow - 8
