Bill Eden will be the featured speaker at the Monday, October 27 DFO
meeting. Bill will transport you to Borneo, the third-largest island in the world and
home of 633 resident birds (50 endemics). It is also one of the few remaining
natural habitats for the endangered Bornean Orangutan. Bill traveled to
Borneo in 2013.
Bill's photos will feature a sample of the bird species found in the state of
Sabah including the Rhinoceros Hornbill (one of eight hornbill species found
there), the Black and Red Broadbill, and Stork-billed Kingfisher, as well as
the massive caverns housing Edible-nest Swiftlets. Everything seems exotic in
Borneo including the world's largest flower, the Rafflesia, called the "corpse"
flower.
Bill has presented his birding trip photos of Australia and Brazil to DFO in
the past.
The DFO meeting is in the Denver Museum of Nature and Science, Ricketson
Auditorium. Enter through the west door by 7:30 p.m. We must lock
the door a little after that time.
