I've uploaded just under 20 photos from my weekend in Washington. My friend accurately predicted that a day of heavy rain and hard east winds followed by a night of 60+ mph winds from west would produce rarities on the outer coast. And, perched in the northwestern corner of the state, we located a Eurasian Hobby (2nd state and 3rd lower 48 record), a Vega Herring Gull (4th state record), an Orchard Oriole (ho hum in CO, but 8th WA record), 3 Tropical Kingbirds (the year's average at one location), a western WA Grasshopper Sparrow (about 10th record), 3 Clay-colored Sparrows (probably ties or exceeds prior record for w. Washington), and possibly... a Sky Lark. My companions deserve the credit for finding and identifying these smacking rarities: Charlie Wright, Ryan Merrill, Ryan Shaw, and Brad Waggoner. The first three are in their 20s and low 30s, and you'll undoubtedly hear their names much on the national stage. Excellent birders and awesome people (Brad is also an excellent bird and awesome person, just an old fart like me).

My cruddy photo of the Eurasian Hobby has a link to Ryan M's better flight shots
