After an absence of several months during breeding in unknown locations, Lewis's Woodpeckers are back out foraging and caching food for the winter. I saw several at my friend's property east of Canon City and more in the area of Colon's Orchards (which provides apples for their sweet tooth). I got several very good photos of them a few days ago when there was sunshine to brighten their lovely plumage and I have uploaded those to my Birds and Nature blog.
