[cobirds] AMERICAN WOODCOCK and Swamp Sparrow, Fountain Creek, El Paso County, Mew Gull Pueblo Res, Pueblo County

So, we were looking (without success) for the Winter Wren that has been haunting Fountain Creek.  We continued south on the trail from the Willow  Springs parking area (at north end of the park) past mile marker 18 to the concrete gazebo and noticed a long billed bird giving a duck a pretty indignant poke. They were in the little creek to the right of the trail. We thought the poking bird would be a snipe, but a quick look (and double take) proved it to be an American Woodcock!  Thanks to all who came as quickly as possible to see it for themselves, and good luck to anyone searching in the near future.  The Swamp Sparrow was out and active off and on for about 20 minutes at the south bridge, which is the first bridge below the nature center, at about midday, and kept company with a non-reclusive Virginia Rail and a few dabbling ducks.

Yesterday evening, at about 4:30, a Mew Gull was seen with a spread out group of gulls easily watchable from the beach below the South Visitor’s center at Pueblo reservoir, but when the vast majority of the gulls skidded over to the Sailboard area on the opposite side of the nearly completely frozen reservoir, this gull sped off in a southwest direction to points unknown.  We did not see it this morning, when (and again below the S Visitor center), several Lesser Black Backed, 2! Greater Black Backed, and an immature Glaucous Gull were viewed with the large group of gulls there.
