[cobirds] NE Colorado birding results

Eight of us headed out today to see how spring bird migration is
progressing. It isn't. Okay, that might be a bit strong. Trees are just
starting to bud and a few are barely starting to leaf-out.

Prewitt Reservoir:
Below the dam was very slow with few breeders "in" yet and only a few
Swainson's Thrushes and one Ovenbird.

The inlet canal grove was the "birdiest" location with a few Yellow-rumped,
Yellow, Orange-crowned and single MacGillivray's Warblers. Several Orchard
Orioles, Blue Grosbeak, a few Western Wood Pewees and a Plumbeous Vireo.
Also, one first year male Rose-breasted Grosbeak and a nice Red-headed
Woodpecker.

Washington County Golf Course Park (Akron, Colorado):
American Redstart - 1 male
CHESTNUT-SIDED WARBLER - 1 "spanking" male

One male Black-headed Grosbeak was hanging out with a female Rose-breasted
Grosbeak...hmmm.
A really nice Baltimore Oriole was also seen as well as a few Orchard
Orioles.

Last Chance Rest Area:
CHESTNUT-SIDED WARBLER - 1 male (in the trees surrounding the pond)
Northern Waterthrush - 1
Townsend's Warbler - 1 male (behind the motel)
American Redstart - 1 1st year male (behind the motel)
Indigo Bunting - 1 female
Red-breasted Nuthatch - 1 "lingering"

I suspect that migrants will continue to push through in a "rush" as the
trees leaf out and that migration this year will continue well into June.
We'll all see! :-)
