Why Mountain Lions Thrive in Colorado
Come in from the cold and join Boulder County Audubon on February 26, 2019 to learn about Colorado's cougars and view stunning wild photography and videography.
David Neils, wildlife conservationist, will share how he learned to view the landscape as a lion, and now captures completely wild footage of these majestic apex predators on a weekly basis. He'll also provide tips for being "lion" safe and put
your risk in perspective, realizing that grocery store parking lots and I-25 are both a thousand times more dangerous than anything he does in lion country. You'll see jaw-dropping footage of completely wild wildlife, most of it from Northern Colorado.
David Neils grew up in northwest Montana, learned outdoor survival skills before the age of ten and by age 11 was backpacking for 10 days at a time in the Cabinet Wilderness Area, without adults. His parents gave him the greatest gift–figuring life out in the outdoors without adults hovering over his every move. Almost all of his exploration during childhood was off-trail.
After being face-bumped by a tom (male lion) while sleeping on a ridge in the Never Summer Wilderness of Colorado, David took advantage of the encounter to leaned in and has since spent 14 years spending time in lion country. His focus through Wild Nature Media is supporting wildlife conservation, education and research. David also holds private one-on-one workshops for those who want to duplicate his work with apex predators and other wildlife.
When: Tuesday February 26, 2019. Socializing begins as 7:00 PM with the presentation starting at 7:15 PM.
