Report for Monday, 5/6:
Caught 40 birds, but 13 of them were “recaps” – most of them birds that we banded the day after the storm that were still sticking around. Here is the breakdown of the new captures:
Western Wood-pewee 1 (FOS)
House Wren 1
Hermit Thrush 2
American Robin 2 (FOS)
Orange-crowned Warbler 6
Yellow-rumped Warbler, Myrtle 2
Yellow-rumped Warbler, Audubon 8
Yellow-rumped Warbler, hybrid 1
Spotted Towhee 1 return (banded 5/13/12)
White-crowned Sparrow, Gambel’s 2
Red-winged Blackbird 1
Today, Tuesday, 5/7:
The day started cloudy, slightly breezy, threatening rain, but very birdy. Then, after perhaps a half hour, the sun came out, the wind died, and we don’t know where the birds went! Banded only 15 birds. We did catch a Black and White Warbler, only the second one in the 9 years of this station. (Mackenzie, you were right – we caught one in 2010.) Here’s the breakdown:
Hermit Thrush 2
Yellow Warbler 2
Yellow-rumped Warbler, Audubon 1
Yellow-rumped Warbler, hybrid 1
Black and White Warbler 1
Common Yellowthroat 1
Spotted Towhee 1
White-crowned Sparrow, Gambel’s 3
American Goldfinch 3 (FOS)
Just a reminder: We will be closed This Friday and Saturday, 5/10-11. Then open daily through 6/2, weather permitting. (Waiting to see what this rain does…..some chance weather may not permit opening tomorrow.)
