A really nice morning at the Chatfield station, with great springtime weather and excellent birds. I think we continue to benefit from the storm, catching a number of species in greater numbers than usual, including Hermit Thrushes and Yellow-rumped Warblers. We also caught 2 Rough-winged Swallows, which was a real treat. Here’s the breakdown:
Northern Rough-winged Swallow 2 (FOS; we caught no swallows last year, and usually don’t have more than a couple in any year)
House Wren 1 (FOS)
Ruby-crowned Kinglet 2
Hermit Thrush 13
Orange-crowned Warbler 5
Virginia’s Warbler 1
Yellow Warbler 1 (FOS, and just a bit early; the first one usually shows up on May 5)
Yellow-rumped Warbler, Myrtle 4
Yellow-rumped Warbler, Audubon 10
Lincoln Sparrow 2
Total was 41, which is very good for this station, especially during the first week.
