[cobirds] Probably hybrid Glossy X White-faced Ibis and many other waterbirds and shorebirds in Florence

Dark ibis have been around Florence and the Canon City area in fairly low numbers so far this year but I found a flock of over a hundred on Thursday.  In the flock was a bird with blue lines framing it's eyes and the eyes looked dark in my spotting scope.  However, when I enlarged the photos I could see that the blue lines continued, though only thinly, behind the eyes and the eyes had a reddish caste so a probable hybrid Glossy X White-faced Ibis.

The last 3 days have been excellent numbers and diversity of waterbirds and shorebirds in the Florence area.  I found 45+ yellowlegs (mostly Lesser but at least 8 Greater) in one flooded field on Thursday with most continuing yesterday and many still around today.  In that same flooded field were 1 Long-billed Dowitcher, 3 Wilson's Phalarope and more than 10 American Pipit.

The Grisenti gravel pit pond (the one north of the BLM's Blue Heron ponds on H115 north of Florence) had 5 Snowy Egrets Thursday while the Holcim Wetlands had an additional Snowy plus a Great Egret..

Today there was an adult Black-crowned Night-Heron in Florence River Park when I was there plus I found 3 Least Sandpipers on the Arkansas River.   I also found 2-3  first of the year Cattle Egrets  in a flooded field in the area.

I have posted photos of the probable hybrid ibis on my Birds and Nature blog and will get some nice photos of the Cattle Egret up soon (and post about Canon City birds too)

Some to many of these may have been pushed in by the upslope storm on Wednesday/Wednesday night.
