The best day of the spring so far at Chico Basin Ranch (fee area) for warblers. I saw 15 species of warblers today (missed Chat, which I saw last time I was there). A few other birders were also present, and saw most of these birds.
Headquarters, Pueblo County:
Western Palm Warbler - 1
Nashville Warbler - 1 male
Ovenbird -1 singing
Northern Waterthrush - 1 singing
Plumbeous Vireo - 1 (seen by Bob Brown and Dan Stringer)
Rose Pond, Pueblo County:
Northern Parula - 1 male
American Redstart - 1 female tpye
Northern Waterthrush - 1
White-throated Sparrow - 1
Townsend's Warbler - 1 female (this species is typically rare in the state in spring, not so much this spring, this is at least my 4th of the spring, depending on how many there have been in Pueblo City Park).
Banding Station, El Paso County:
Bobolink - 1 singing male
Chestnut-sided Warbler - 1 male (banded)
Ovenbird - 1 (banded)
White-throated Sparrow - 1
Least Flycatcher - 1 (banded)
Ruby-throated/Black-chinned Hummingbird - 1 male (I'm 95% sure it was a Ruby-throated, briefly it showed red throat, it wasn't making any noise with the wings, and it almost flew into a banding net).
I saw my first of the spring Western Wood-Pewees, Willow Flycatcher, and Common Nighthawk as well.
Lots of birds to look at around all the locations in the morning hours today.
