- One of the European Starlings that serenades us each morning with their mimicry of various other species decided to officially visit today. They are rarely caught, high personality birds that we can't help but enjoy.
- A Mountain Chickadee. We occasionally catch MOCH/BCCH hybrids, but this is the first MOCH since 2017.
- A latish Wilson's Warbler, an adult female, that had a ton (that's a scientific term) of fat and weighed in at 9.2 grams; I think the only one this season over 9 grams. Just enjoying the scenery going south?!
Okay, here's the official breakdown of the day's 18 new birds:
Mountain Chickadee 1
Red-breasted Nuthatch 1
Ruby-crowned Kinglet 3
European Starling 1
Wilson's Warbler 1
Song Sparrow 2
Lincoln's Sparrow 1
White-crowned Sparrow, Gambel's 4
Dark-eyed Junco, Oregon 4
We are open Tuesday through Sunday, weather permitting, through October 23. Most weekday mornings there is a visitor session from 8 to 9 a.m., and on the weekends there are sessions at 8, 9 and 10 a.m. Reservations are needed; here is the link. Please join us......It is a great year to visit Barr!
